Yisa was appointed to the board of the Manitoba Arts Council in , serving for 9 years. Yisa is a recipient of the Manitoba Award. Ondo State of Nigeria, honoured Yisa in as a Cultural Ambassador; he is the first Nigerian diaspora artist to be so honoured. Yisa was elected to the membership of Manitoba Society of Artists in , becoming its President in at the th Anniversary and serving until For almost four decades Yisa has actively engaged in extensive art practice, working in a variety of media: oil, acrylic, printmaking, metal sculpture and installation and exhibiting in solo and group art exhibitions internationally.
Yisa has had over 50 art exhibitions, conducted more than 10 workshops and art talks since his first exhibition at the National Museum, Lagos in In his paintings, Akinbolaji explores and uncovers the possibilities of his creative expression, combining various art expertise and endeavours to express a full range of experiences in one piece.
